What is DC?

In the world of electricity, there are two types of current: AC and DC. While AC (alternating current) is what we typically use to power our homes and businesses, DC (direct current) has many important applications.

Direct current flows in only one direction, while alternating current changes direction regularly. This makes DC ideal for certain applications, such as powering direct from a battery, or powering small devices like mobile phones and laptops

In our refrigeration systems, the DC current from your battery can be used to power our specially manufactured SECOP compressor, which is responsible for circulating the refrigerant through the system. By using DC power, our compressors can be made smaller and more efficient, which can lead to significant energy savings.

Additionally, DC current can be used in combination with solar panels or other renewable energy sources to create an off-grid refrigeration system. This can be especially important in remote locations, or on the move, where access to electricity is limited or unreliable.

At Shoreline DC Refrigeration, we specialise in designing and manufacturing refrigeration systems that utilise DC power. Our team of experts can help you find the right solution for your needs, whether your fridge is for an off-grid cabin, a mobile home or boat… Anything that requires off-mains refrigeration, we’ve got you covered, coast to coast.
