Troubleshooting Guide
1.0 Unwanted Fridge Odour
A smelly fridge can be due to spoiled food, bacteria growth, or poor ventilation. Here’s how to tackle the issue:
Step 1: Identify the Source
1. Remove All Items: Take everything out of the fridge. Check each item for spoilage.
2. Check Expiration Dates: Discard any expired or spoiled food.
Step 2: Clean the Fridge
1. Unplug the Fridge: Ensure the fridge is turned off for safety.
2. Remove Shelves and Drawers: Take out all removable parts.
3. Wash Removable Parts: Clean the shelves and drawers with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
4. Clean Interior Surfaces: Use a sanitizing anti-bacterial spray and wipe down the interior walls, shelves, and drawers. Pay extra attention to corners and crevices.
5. Clean Door Seals: Use a soft cloth to clean in between the rubber seal grooves.
Step 3: Deodorize the Fridge
1. A fridge deodorizer can be used to help remove unwanted smells from the internal compartment, this can be placed onto the shelf or inside the door compartment.
Step 4: Prevent Future Odours
1. Regular Cleaning: Clean the fridge every few months.
2. Cover Strong-Smelling Foods: Store strong-smelling foods in airtight containers.
3. Check for Spoiled Food: Regularly check and discard expired or spoiled items.
2.0 Water On The Floor Of The Appliance
Water pooling on the floor can be due to a clogged drain, or a drip tray that is overflowing. Here’s how to address it:
Step 1: Check the Drainage Hole
1. Locate the Drain hole: The drain hole is usually located at the rear bottom interior wall of the fridge.
2. Inspect for blockages or debris: Ensure the drainage hole is not block by any debris or food. A pipe-cleaner or thin plastic tube can be used to push this debris through the drainage hole.
Step 2: Check the Drip Tray
1. Locate the Drip Tray: The drip tray will be mounted at the rear of the appliance above the motor.
2. Empty the Drip Tray: Using a cloth or sponge, insert this into the drip tray from above to absorb the build up of water. Squeeze the water out and repeat until all the water has been emptied from the drip tray.
Step 3: Check the Door Seals
1. Inspect Seals: Check the rubber door seals for cracks, tears, or dirt.
2. Clean or Replace: Clean the seals with soapy water and a soft cloth. If damaged, replace them.
Step 4: Check for Ice Buildup
1. Unplug the Fridge: Turn off the fridge and let any ice melt. (Do not use any sharp instruments that may damage the rear fridge wall)
2. Clear Ice Buildup: Once the ice has melted, clean the area thoroughly.
