General Troubleshooting
I need to transport my appliance, can I lay it down?
If you have to lay the fridge down during transport, it is better not to lay it 100% flat on its rear side, but rather to keep an angle so gravity keeps the oil in the compressor. Keep the top end elevated as high as you can during the transportation of the appliance.
If it has been laid down for some time, then wait at least 24 hours with the refrigerator in the normal upright position before turning it on. This will allow sufficient time for oil that may have gotten into the cooling pipework to flow back into the compressor.
I need to reverse the door on my Shoreline appliance
If you need guidance on reversing the door of your Shoreline appliance, our HELPDESK is here to assist you. To provide the best support, please have your appliance's model and serial number ready when you reach out. This information allows us to give you the most accurate instructions and ensure compatibility with your specific appliance.
My Shoreline is louder than expected
Our Shoreline fridges are designed to be 'whisper quiet'. While some humming or gurgling noises are normal, rattling or loud vibrating noises can often be easily rectified. If you notice these types of noises, try the following:
- Temporarily turn the fridge to its maximum setting so the unit runs continuously. While the fridge is running, gently press on the various components at the rear of the fridge one by one. This will help you identify if any specific part's vibration is causing the noise.
- A common noise source is the copper piping at the rear, which can sometimes shift during transit and come into contact with other parts like the walls, metal base plate or the drip tray. If pressing on the piping or other components dampens the noise, these parts might need slight adjustments. Carefully pry the copper piping or any other noisy components away from contact points to reduce the noise.
My interior light is not working
If the internal light of your Shoreline appliance is not working, follow these steps to diagnose and fix the issue:
- Check if the Motor is Running:
Verify if the motor of the unit is running. This is located at the rear of the unit at the bottom.
Alternatively, feel inside the appliance to ensure it is cooling. If it is cooling but the light is not working, proceed to the next steps. - Check the Light Switch:
Locate the light switch on the right-hand side of the unit.
Ensure the switch is not jammed and is moving properly. Sometimes, a simple switch jam or malfunction can cause the light to not work. - Reposition the LED Lamp:
Access the light via its casing.
Carefully remove and reposition the LED lamp. Sometimes, gently prying the two prongs apart slightly outwards can create a better connection when the LED is refitted. - Check the Internal Light Connection:
Check if the internal light wiring has not been removed from the rear of the unit, locate the connection at the very top of the ECU (Electronic Control Unit). Ensure the internal light is piggy-back crimped to the negative connection. - Replace the Switch:
If the switch is the culprit behind the light malfunction, a replacement switch is available at the following link: Replacement Switch.
By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and fix the issue with the internal light. If you encounter any difficulties or need further assistance, please reach out to us via our Help Desk.
My Shoreline appliance is giving off a bad smell
Many things in your fridge can cause bad odours. Follow these steps to identify and eliminate the source of the smell:
- Check Your Contents: The first step is to check the contents of the fridge. Spoiled food can often be the cause of unpleasant odours. Remove any expired or spoiled items, and clean the inside of the fridge with a mild detergent. Disconnect the fridge and remove all items. Use a non-toxic cleaning product or solution of bicarbonate of soda and warm water to thoroughly clean the interior. Pay special attention to corners and crevices where spills or food particles might have accumulated, including the door seals which can sometimes hide mould and mildew if not regularly maintained.
- Check the Drip Tray at the Rear: If your fridge has a drip tray, it could be a source of odours. You may be able to clean it with a dry cloth, or you might need to remove the tray, which is located above the compressor, using a screwdriver. Clean the tray thoroughly, dry, then replace it.

There is water coming from my Shoreline appliance
Water leakage from your fridge can be concerning, but it is often due to common and easily fixable issues. Follow these steps to identify and resolve the problem:
- Check the Drip Tray: The drip tray collects condensation from the fridge. If it is full or not positioned correctly, it can overflow. Empty and clean the drip tray, then ensure it is properly positioned.
Inspect the Door Seals: Damaged or dirty door seals can cause condensation to form inside the fridge, leading to water leakage. Clean the seals with a mild detergent and a soft cloth. If the seals are torn or broken, they should be replaced to ensure a proper seal and prevent leaks. - Examine the Drain Hole: The drain hole can become clogged with food particles or debris, preventing water from draining properly. Locate the drain hole inside the fridge, and use a pipe cleaner or a similar tool to clear any blockages.
By following these steps, you should be able to stop the water leakage from your Shoreline appliance. If the problem persists, please raise a Helpdesk ticket.
I have accidentally removed my appliance wiring
If you have recently moved or reinstalled a shoreline appliance and accidentally removed the rear wiring, please reach out to our HELPDESK and supply the model and serial number along with photographs of the rear ECU (electronic unit) and the associated wiring. We can supply step by step guidance on the repositioning of the rear electrics.
What do the numbers on my thermostat mean?
The numbers on your Shoreline thermostat indicate the cooling power:
Lower Numbers: These settings provide lower cooling power. Use these settings for less intense cooling, suitable for less perishable items or when the fridge is less full.
Higher Numbers: These settings provide stronger cooling power, making the fridge colder. Use these settings when you need the fridge to be colder, please note however the fridge will run for longer periods of time.
Some fridges may have settings labelled from MIN to MAX, with MAX being the coldest setting.
If the writing on the thermostat is worn or ambiguous, you can follow this method to determine the settings:
Turn the thermostat until it audibly clicks off. When turning it back on, the lowest setting (least cooling) will be just after the click, and the highest setting (most cooling) will be when it is turned further. We generally recommend setting the thermostat between the lower settings (between 1 and 2) for optimal performance under most conditions.
My door keeps opening in transit
Shoreline appliances are designed primarily for narrow boats and off-grid installations, but they are also suitable for use in campervans, motorhomes, and other mobile environments. If your fridge door keeps opening during transit, we recommend using door catches to keep it securely closed. These door catches are specially designed to withstand the bumps and vibrations that can occur while on the move, ensuring that your fridge door remains shut throughout your journey.
There are various aftermarket door catches available that can be purchased and installed easily. If you would like more information on recommended door catches or need assistance in selecting the right one for your appliance, please contact us via our HELPDESK and we’ll be happy to help.
